Master Classes

and Workshops

The Association of Chelmsford a Cappella is please to offer master classes during our ACA-Pocalypse weekend!

Our master class and workshop offerings will be taught by The Noreasters, our headliner co-ed performing group from Northeastern University.

Please register today! Please consider joining us on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 at the Performing Arts Center at the Chelmsford High School. Classes will run from 11:30 through 4:00. Transportation is not included. Adult chaperones requested for all school age groups participating in the classes.

Here are some of the classes we hope to offer:

Workshop types:

GM track = General Member workshop, for any student who wishes to improve their core a cappella skills. 

SL track = Student Leader workshop, for students who are choreographers, music directors, social media posters, etc, and want to increase their a cappella knowledge.

Session 1: 11:30 - 12:45

Movement on Stage -GM- Anthony Rodriguez and Carly Manfrini - Covers stage presence, talking about hand motion, eye contact, jamming out and more. 

How to Choreograph -SL- Tolu Faderin and Tiffany Fujiwara - Talks about the process of making choreography from a visual and creative standpoint.

Audition Preparation -SL/GM- Aanu Fawole and Juan Ong - Tips and tricks to tackle auditions for collegiate groups, including some singing technique exercises, stuff you may encounter in an audition, and learning about what things groups listen for in an audition/callback. 

VP basics -GM- Arun Venugopal - The fundamentals of vocal percussion, including the basic sounds, boots & cats and other common rhythms, how to notate a simple line, and how to gain inspiration to write.  

 

Session 2: 1:15-2:30

Semi-private masterclass. Groups may indicate their preference to focus on musical elements, visual/performance elements, or both.

 

Session 3: 2:45 - 4:00

VP intermediate -GM/SL- Arun - A look at more difficult sounds, how to learn complex rhythms, and writing VP for a cappella specifically.

Developing Group Sound - GM - Caleb Whelden - in this interactive session, Caleb Whelden will guide you through some exercises and best rehearsal practices that will help your group to sound more unified, more powerful, and more in tune.

Business Management -SL- Tolu Faderin and Tiffany Fujiwara - How to manage the business and branding side of a cappella, how college groups function, and some ideas for leaders in HS groups. 

Musical Direction (aka Rehearsal Management) -SL- Aanu Fawole- Structuring rehearsals over long-term, short-term, and in-the-moment, how to run sectionals, and things to focus on when running music.

Belting, Healthy Singing, and Nuance -GM- Juan Ong, Anthony Rodriguez, and Carly Manfrini - Learning how to belt, sing healthily, and nuance your lines.

Concessions

Saturday Morning and Evening

The ACA will offer concessions in the morning and evening, featuring snacks and drinks for participants.

Lunch and Dinner is offered for all workshop participants.

We are also offering lunch and dinner for workshop participants.

for lunch, we are offering roast beef, turkey, or ham sandwiches (with or without cheese). Each sandwich comes with chips, water, and a cookie for $5.00.

For dinner, We are also offering cheese pizza and salad for those workshop participants staying for the performances. The cost is $10.00 per pizza.
